HISTORY OF THE MAKING OF THE MUSEUM
After several years of collecting and restoring old snowmobiles I found myself running out of storage areas, something had to happen. We remodeled an existing warehouse for storage. As things progressed friends stopped by giving ideas on displaying the sleds, soon the idea of a museum emerged.
We’ve had a great time getting it put together. Even while working on it people would stop by with several buddies, sharing stories about their old snowmobiles. One of the first models I purchased and restored is a 1963 Polaris Pusher on its own Polaris Industries Trailer made for the sled. Things just escalated from there.
I became interested in Race sleds in particular and have sleds from 25 Manufacturers the oldest being a 1958 Pusher. I have a Lachasen Pusher, the model being one of a kind built in Canada. A favorite is a 1968 Yamaha Prototype SL350, the first snowmobile made by the Japanese.
The "N.W.Museum of Vintage Snowmobiles" has 100 plus sleds (Antique, Vintage and Classic), from Pushers, Trail and Race sleds, restored and unrestored.
We’ve met many people across the country and have come to realize the broad interest these old snowmobiles have created. Who knew there were so many manufacturers? Other attractions at the museum include a collection of memorabilia including signs, posters, photos, clothing etc.
HOW IT ALL STARTED
I have about filled up my space BUT I have saved an area for guest sleds to be featured at different times. Things are still in progress but the Museum is open by appointment and look forward to showing it to anyone who has an interest.
