1971 Sno Coupe

The undercarriage of this 1971 Sno Coupe was assembled by AVOIT in Afton Wy. The parts were supplied for them by Polaris Industries where they then would assemble The Super Voyager Chassis complete with Engine. Polaris would pick them up and take them to Innovar Inc, Dunnell, MN and there they would complete the assembly by adding the seat, hood, interior, cab, & windshield.

Only two were returned to the factory in Afton, WY. Herb Anderson was the plant Supt. at that time. He told me they made all the Homelite Snowmobiles from Polaris parts. He thought they were made in the early 70’s, maybe just a 2 year period. AVOIT continued to manufacture snowmobiles until Texton bought Polaris, then both plants, the one in Canada and Wyoming were shut down Herb said.

The Sno Coupe I purchased was bought back from the original owner by an employee. of AVOIT who now is 85 years old. His Daughter & Son-in Law whom I purchased the Sled from said the original owner used it to get from his cabin to the highway to pick up His mail & supplies. She thought he used it only a year or maybe two before her Dad bought it. She said after the plant quit manufacturing snowmobles, her Dad started a repair shop. He acquired over a hundred used snowmobiles, scrapped them out or sold them over the years. He has a few old unrestored sleds left. Follow our web side and You’ll see them in the coming months.
